N O RTH GL A S GOW COLLEGE PROSPECTUS 2010/11

Bursary / EMA

(Includes Bursaries and Education Maintenance Allowance).

The majority of National Qualification courses are bursary funded. When you are offered a place on a full-time non-advanced course, a funding application will automatically be sent to you. View our Guide to Funding available from

www.northglasgowcollege.ac.uk

If you require confidential advice on your funding application, make an appointment with one of our advisors at ngcbursary@north-gla.ac.uk

alternatively call 0141 630 5186 or 0141 558 9001.

Your Finance: Learner Services Discretionary Funds

All learners attending courses on a full-time or part-time basis (around 10 hours or more) are eligible to apply but you must have taken the maximum finance available to support yourself, e.g. applied for a bursary, the full student loan etc. While every effort will be made to help as many learners as possible, the amount of funds are limited and priority will be given to learners who have to meet their own living costs.

Particular consideration will be given to those who have lost Income Support or Housing Benefit, as a result of starting College. It is the learner’s responsibility to supply all necessary documents which help to show hardship, e.g. letter of award (College bursary or SAAS); letter from Student Loan Company: proof of income, part-time or full-time; electricity/gas/telephone bills; childcare costs, etc. An assessment of need is based on the documentary evidence supplied. Remember if you need childcare you should apply as soon as possible.

A Discretionary Fund Form should be collected from and returned completed to Learner Services as soon as possible. If you have access to a computer Discretionary Fund forms (and guidance) are on the College VLE Blackboard. Remember, there is a limited amount of money for distribution, so don’t be slow. Ask for a confidential interview to discuss your finances. You never know what support you could be entitled to – if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

Finance: Student Awards / Loans

Learners who have been offered a place on a full-time HNC or HND course are eligible to apply for an award from the Students Award

Agency for Scotland (Tel: 0131 476 8212).

SAAS are encouraging as many learners as possible to apply online which may be accessed at www.saas.gov.uk. – applying online speeds up the whole process – if you need help contact Learner Services.

Alternatively you may download the SAAS form from the website for completion and return to Edinburgh by post.

European learners may apply for a “fees only” award which depends on residency status.

NB Learners who do not apply will be liable to pay their own fees to the College. Please complete all SAAS applications and any other sources of finance as a matter of urgency as worrying about payment of fees interferes with your studies.
