DESCRIPTION
This one year full-time course is available starting in August and January. The course is broad based and introduces the main concepts in computing and may be studied part-time by negotiation.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
3 Standard Grade passes at General level or above. Mature learners without formal qualifications welcomed. Entry by interview.
QUALIFICATIONS & PROGRESSION
Learners will complete a National Certificate, successful learners may gain entry to the HND Computing or HNC Information Technology.

DESCRIPTION
This is a one year, full-time course which may be studied part time by negotiation. The HNC award focuses on IT applications development. It provides a foundation for further study at HND level, but also addresses the needs of the potential advanced user of IT. Throughout the HNC and HND awards there is an emphasis on team working, communication skills and planning & organising skills.
PROPOSED CLIENT GROUPS INCLUDE
• Full time or part time learners wishing to gain employment in the area of Information Technology and Information Systems.
• People in employment, both IT professionals and others who wish to update their knowledge of IT applications and database systems.
• People who wish to progress to university degree programmes in IT or IT and Business related disciplines.
AIMS OF THE PROPOSED NEW AWARDS
• To offer an up to date IT qualification that reflects recent development in IT and enables candidates to gain skills that are in demand in the workplace.
• To offer routes to a range of university degree programmes in the area of IT.
• To offer opportunities for candidates to work towards vendor qualifications, specifically Microsoft Office Specialist, Oracle Academy, Microsoft Desktop Support Technician and Advanced ECDL.
• To offer a flexible qualification containing clusters of units across a range of IT related areas.
• To embed employability skills, including working in teams, problem solving, communication skills, personal and citizenship skills.
• To provide a qualification with a vocational and academic balance, that develops both practical IT skills and theoretical knowledge.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
At least 1 Higher Grade pass or an appropriate group of SQA Units. Mature learners with a proven background of working in a related environment are welcome. Entry by interview.
QUALIFICATIONS & PROGRESSION
A group award of SQA HN Units with possible progression to 2nd year degree course.
