Building & Engineering Technologies

DESCRIPTION
This 18 week, full-time course is specifically designed for learners to learn a number of different skills in the building and engineering industries. The course is ideal to allow time and reflection before making a career choice, as well as ensuring that the successful learner will be well equipped in a number of practical transferable skills.
CONTENT
Practical hands-on training programme with a choice of four disciplines from: Electrical Craft Skills | Brickwork | Electronics | Auto Bodywork | Factory Maintenance | Joinery | Machining | also includes: Intro to Information Technology | Physical Education | Literacy and Numeracy.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
No formal qualifications required. Selection by interview with emphasis on the three “A”s: Attitude, Application and Attendance.
QUALIFICATIONS & PROGRESSION
College certificate plus a number of SQA units in various disciplines. Will enhance the prospects of successful learners to enter work as a trainee in one of the disciplines.

Plumbing

DESCRIPTION
This is a full-time 36 week course that will allow learners to explore the skills necessary to gain employment as an apprentice plumber. Learners will be registered for C&G units in plumbing but will not be registered on a formal NVQ or SVQ programme.

Maintain Safe Working Environment when Managing Non-Complex Plumbing Work Activities | Maintain Effective Plumbing Working Relationships | Contribute to the Improvement of Plumbing Business Products and Services | Plan Complex Domestic Plumbing Work Activities | Install Complex Domestic Plumbing Systems and Components | Commission and Decommission Complex Domestic Plumbing Systems | Service and Maintain Complex Domestic Plumbing System and components | Oil Heating Systems (optional unit) | Gas Systems (optional unit).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Entry to this course is by way of extended interview.
