BA (Hons) Top-Up Degree

Visual Arts

SCQF Level 9 & 10

DESCRIPTION

The BA (Hons) Visual Arts course will run for 36 weeks from September 2010 until June 2011 and applications will be completed through UCAS. Students will be in college for 5 days per week and be allocated their own dedicated work space.

CONTENT

Students will complete 120 credits for this top-up degree and will complete the following modules; Advanced Studio Practice (45 credits) | Personal Project (15 credits) | Curatorship and Professional Practice (15 credits) | Advanced Specialist Practices (15 credits) | Degree Show (15 credits) | Historical and Contextual Studies (15 credits).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This exciting development which is validated by Leeds Metropolitan University is open to candidates who have an existing HND in Visual Arts and related areas. For example the new national awards in HND Art and Design, HND Contemporary Art Practice and HND Visual Communication or the old style HND Art and Design awards with a variety of titles. This top up degree is also suitable for candidates with a pass degree in Art and related areas who wish to progress to honours.

All candidates would be expected to have successfully completed an HND in Art and related areas and ideally, have gained an A/B grade in the second year graded unit or achieved at least four merit passes in second year or other national equivalencies. All candidates must show an entry level portfolio of their own artwork at interview and provide an academic referee. Higher English or communication higher level or communication 4 or national equivalent is also an entry requirement. Candidates who do not have these will be asked to write a short appreciation of a piece of their own art selected by the interviewer from the candidate’s portfolio.

QUALIFICATIONS & PROGRESSION

Candidates who pass 120 credits will gain the award of BA (Hons) Visual Art. This will enable them to gain employment in related areas or progress to masters level for further study.

Higher National Diploma

Community Arts

SCQF Level 7 & 8

DESCRIPTION

Provides skills and understanding of planning and delivering a range of arts activities to the community. Second year of the course runs from August to March including a period of work placement.

CONTENT

Visual Arts | Drama | Music | Acting | Community Arts Workshops | Arts Workshop Planning | Digital Photography | Freelance Working Skills | Arts Administration | Accessing Funds | Murals | Arts Activities to Specialist Groups | Event Management | Work Experience.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1 or 2 Highers, English would be an advantage or relevant group of NQ Units including Communications 4. Evidence of ability in one area of the Arts is required. Mature learners will be considered on the basis of experience.

QUALIFICATIONS & PROGRESSION

SQA Higher National Diploma in Community Arts. Progression to a relevant degree course is well established with the BA Community Arts, Strathclyde University.
