DESCRIPTION
An advanced Health Care course for learners wishing to pursue a career in the sector. This is a one year (36 weeks) full-time course which incorporates a significant practical placement element.
This award allows candidates to work within a variety of health care settings in the statutory, voluntary and private sectors as Health Care Support or Senior Health Care Support Workers. It will also help candidates to progress to the Nursing degree programme.
CONTENT
The award is made up of the following mandatory units: Physiology for Heath Care Professionals | Physiology of the Reproductive System | Principles of Health Care Practice | Health Care Policy | Psychology and Sociology in Health Care | Health Care Practice Experience | Calculations and Practical Techniques in Health Care | Positive Health Care for Individuals | Health Care: Graded Unit.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no mandatory formal qualifications but candidates should have numeracy and communication skills at SCQF levels 5/6 (Intermediate 2/Higher). Consideration will also be given to applicants, particularly mature applicants who have no formal qualifications but whose prior work/life experience and maturity indicate that they may be suitable participants. Such candidates will be given the chance to demonstrate that they possess the necessary communication and numeracy skills during the recruitment process by means of a short assignment which will be undertaken by all candidates. Candidates will also be interviewed individually.
Please note that all successful applicants will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check.
QUALIFICATIONS & PROGRESSION
Progression to employment in a variety of settings in the statutory, voluntary and private sectors as health care support or senior health care support workers. It will also help participants to progress to a nursing degree programme.

DESCRIPTION
This one year full-time course incorporating the Intermediate 2 Care Course, is designed for those intending to seek employment in social care settings or progress to more advanced courses, specifically HNC Social Care. Includes practical placement.

Human Development | Families in Modern Society | Introduction to Counselling | Psychology for Care | Sociology for Care | Values and Principles in Care.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Communication skills equivalent to Standard Grade 3 in English or Intermediate 1. Candidates will be asked to undertake a written exercise.
QUALIFICATIONS & PROGRESSION
Possible progression to HNC Social Care or to employment.
