The performance may be affected by the network technology. If it’s over IP it’s a higher latency. If it’s over optical, it’s a fixed latency.
Quality of Service – are we going to be queued up behind lots of little messaging systems, so we need to make sure we’ve got a Quality of Service set.
Distance affects round trip time which affects latency. The further we go the longer it takes.
Frame size – especially if we’re going over IP extended circuits. We want to avoid segmentation and reassembly.
If we’re optical extension the frame size is irrelevant but then the buffer credits become relevant because we need to make sure we can saturate the link.
