– Start of Frame (SOF) – End of Frame (EOF)
• A defined structure:
– Position sensitive fields between SOF and EOF and preceding the payload
A Fibre Channel frame is simply a container for information that is transported from its source to its destination.
The characteristics of a frame are that it:
o Has a payload which can be many different types of information: ULP data ULP commands ULP Status Link Control Information (only used by Fibre Channel – not available to the ULPs)
o Fabric and Port Login and Logout o Arbitrated Loop Address Assignment o Flow control (ACKs) o Busys and Rejects with reason code
