Device Port
phy Delivery Subsystem
A SAS Device is the equivalent term for a Node in Fibre Channel. Neither truly define the characteristics of the interface, there are just identifiers for the end point.
A SAS Device connects through a SAS Port, as a Fibre Channel Node connects through a logical Fibre Channel Port. The SAS Port is also a logical definition as 2 types exist, Narrow and Wide.
A Narrow port contains a single physical interface which consists of a transmit pair and a receive pair, operates at 300MB/s Full Duplex and has a cable length of up to 8 metres.
A Wide port contains up to four physical interfaces which can operate up to 300MB/s Full Duplex each, providing a throughput of up to 1,200 MB/s.
