• Simple Name Server (SNS) stores information about ports:
– FC port addresses – Node and port WWNs – Classes of Service supported – ULPs supported (i.e. SCSI, IP) – Common name

• Links WWNs to Port Addresses • Provides information about ports in the requestor’s zone • Used to support soft zoning and other services • Used by management applications for fabric mapping • Distributed to all switches in the fabric
Fibre Channel Simple Name Server (SNS):
Database implemented by the switch that stores FC addresses, WWNs, and ULP support for all ports attached to the fabric. Supports zoning by only providing information about ports in the requestor’s zone. Also supports soft zoning by performing WWN lookups to verify zone membership.
Used by management applications that need to map the fabric.
