• Dedicated point-to-point connection between two Fibre Channel nodes
• This is really a DAS architecture, but offers better performance and flexibility than Parallel SCSI
So as we go through the FC SAN Topologies this is our point to point connection, N_Port to N_Port.
Point to point is nice and straightforward. We have a node port talking to a node port, pretty much like a Direct Attached Storage Architecture.
We can do this over quite a long distance. If we use single mode , 9 micron fibre with a 1550 nanometre wavelength transmitter, we could actually have these two nodes 120km apart. That’s much better than the 25m SCSI distance limitation that we had.
