treatment with Red Vine Leaf Extract prevents MMP-1 overexpression (MMP-1 production was back to basal level) and collagen is preserved (+24% hence providing a 55% protection against blue light exposure).
Domestic light exposure causes an alteration of the extra cellular matrix by decreasing collagen production while stimulating MMP-1 production which eventually leads to a loss of skin density, elasticity and flexibility. Red Vine Leaf Extract effectively negates the noxious effects of domestic light hence preventing skin premature ageing.
Conclusion
Reducing pollution is one of the foremost stakes of our modern society. In fact, pollution should be a worldwide concern as it promotes global warming and has a heavy impact on health (such as cancer, allergies, and of course premature ageing…). Besides, recent studies have shown the important impact of indoor pollution. Indeed, light from screens and lamps, heavy metals in house

dust, VOCs, etc., all contribute to affect the body, and especially skin. Indeed, skin is the first defence of the body and as such, it is the most exposed organ to ever-increasing amounts of pollution. This calls for effective daily protection. To meet this challenge, Exsymol designed an original broad-spectrum anti- pollution ingredient that fights against both environmental and indoor pollution. Redivine (INCI name: Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Leaf Extract) has a dual mode of action, providing both a direct protection by ROS scavenging, and an indirect protection by enforcing antioxidant defences of cutaneous cells (the Nrf2 pathway activation). Both properties combine to prevent DNA damages induced by a reference outdoor pollutant (benzo[a]pyrene) found in industrial exhausts, cigarette smoke, and diesel particles. For indoor pollution, Redivine properties provide protection against domestic pollutants such as lead-containing dust and artificial light (blue light). Redivine reduces lead toxicity and limits blue light- induced extrinsic ageing.
