Consortium to run São Paulo Lottery Operator News

Te SP Loterias Consortium, comprised of IGT Global Services and Scientific Games, has been approved to operate the São Paulo Lottery. Initially, the Aposta Vencedora Consortium had secured the auction victory. However, they were disqualified for failing to pay the R$600m concession fee by the required deadline, despite being granted two extensions. Te group had presented the best proposal in the

auction held in November 2024 but did not meet mandatory conditions including the deposit of the fixed grant, an essential step for signing the contract. Te concession has the potential to generate more than R$500 million in revenue.

Ladbrokes told to end LadBucks ad Legislation

Te Advertising Standards Association has told Ladbrokes that its LadBucks rewards breached advertising standards because it could appeal to under-18s due to the similarity to the in- game currencies of ‘V-bucks’ from Fortnite and ‘Robux’ from Roblox and the large number of minors who play video games. Te TV ad, seen on 17 December 2024,

featured imagery of coins that displayed the initials ‘Lb’, as well as text that stated “100m LADBUCKS”, FREE BETS” and “FREE SPINS”. Te other issue for the Agency was the use of the term ‘lad’, which, while part of Ladbrokes’ name, is typically associated with younger men, including teenaged men/youth. In a statement upholding the complaints,

the ASA commented: “We concluded the name Ladbucks, when considered alongside the imagery and the application of the coin in the ads, was depicted in a manner which was similar to features in video games popular with children. We therefore considered the term in

Concerns for future of SJM Operator News

Analysts are fearing for Macau operator SJM Holdings, who announced it would close seven of Macau’s 11 satellite casinos by the end of the year, whilst buying another two, saying it would "likely being thousands of staff under direct payroll." Te satellite casinos make up around four per

cent of SJM’s revenue. With the government stipulating that all current employees at the satellites must be retained, JP Morgan said: “Tis could even result in losses from wage burdens unless SJM successfully gains meaningful

the ads was likely to be of strong appeal to under-18s and breached the Code.” “We considered a significant number of under-18s were likely to be familiar with those games and their specific features, which included reward schemes that involved earning and using coins in associated game stores. For those reasons, we considered both games and their associated features were strongly associated with youth culture.” Ladbrokes believed that the term was not

associated with any coins from videogames which were popular with under-18s. Tey said that ‘V-bucks’ from Fortnite and ‘Robux’ from Roblox were in-game currencies that had to be purchased before being used to buy in-game items. Tey also said that certain elements of Robux required parental consent and, for subscription services, the purchaser must be over 18. Terefore, the only similarity between those coins and Ladbucks coins was the term bucks. Tey had reviewed the rewards programme in its entirety and believed there was no risk of the term being associated with Fortnite or Roblox.

market share with these additional tables.” Citigroup highlighted that simply relocating

tables would automatically retain market share. “Tere is a possibility that more tables could lead to a dilution in table utilisation,” it warned. "We are currently unsure if SJM is acquiring the entire properties of Casino L’Arc and Casino Ponte 16 or the gaming areas only. It is premature to gauge the impact from the potential acquisition of Casino L’Arc and Casino Ponte 16 without knowing the details of the transaction.” SJM will close Grandview, Legend Palace,

Fortuna, Landmark, Emperor Palace, Kam Pek Paradise, and Casa Real whilst buying Ponte 16 and Le Royal Arc.

Brazil set to raise betting taxes Legislation

Brazil’s Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, has announced alternative measures to the decree that increases the Tax on Financial Transactions (IOF). After a lengthy meeting with the party leaders of the Chamber of Deputies, Haddad communicated that the compensation will involve a greater taxation on sports betting companies and the end of the exemption for earnings from fixed-income securities. According to CNN, among the changes are the

recalibration of the IOF decree, a provisional measure with revenue compensations, a proposed amendment to the Constitution for the review of tax benefits, and a commitment to control and review primary spending. Te proposals still need to be approved by the

National Congress. Haddad confirmed the increase in taxation on betting to cover part of what will be revised with the rollback of the IOF. As a result, the charge on sports betting companies will rise from 12 per cent to 18 per cent.

Operators call for patience over ad bill Legislation

Betting companies are requesting that the President of the Chamber of Deputies review the bill limiting advertising before it goes to a vote. As reported by the newspaper Metrópoles, representatives from sports betting and online gaming firms have appealed to Chamber President, Hugo Motta concerning the legislation that a Senate committee has approved, which aims to restrict advertising in the industry. Tey hope the deputy can "slow down" the bill's

progress and facilitate discussions in committees so that modifications to the text may be considered. In May, the Sports Commission approved a project imposing a number of restrictions on advertising.
