LICENSING AND REGULATIONS
Te Spillemyndigheden (Danish Gambling Authority or DGA) is tasked with governing the market and is part of the Ministry of Taxation and its role includes issuing licences, charging fees, and supervising the industry. Danish gambling licences are divided into two main categories - land-based and online. Tere are three main provisions when applying for a licence from the authority: 1. Players must pay a stake to take part in the game (money or item of value).
2. Players must have a chance of receiving winnings. 3. Tere must be a random element involved.

Tere are 43 online licences – 37 online casino licences and 24 betting licences. Tere is a steady increase in the online sector. In 2012 only a third of Danish GGR came from online gaming compared to 2023 with 64 per cent of GGR from this sector. During this year Denmark ranked third in Europe in terms of GGR from online gambling. Te licensing requirements for 2025 include:

Te application fee for an online betting or casino licence is DKK327,500. A combined betting and casino licence is DKK458,500.

Application renewal fee is DKK131,000 or DKK163,800 for combined licences.
u Licences are valid for five years. u
A revenue-restricted licence (for those with an annual GGR of less than DKK1m or turnover of less than DKK5m) the ap- plication fee is DKK65,500. Permits are valid for one year.

Online operators (betting and casino) must also pay an annual licensing fee based on their GGR ranging from DKK63,800 (GGR under DKK5m) to DKK6.15m (GGR over DKK500m).

Gambling duty (tax) is also required and this is 28 per cent of GGR (betting) or on commission (online casinos).
