In January last year, Danske Licens Spil sold 60 per cent of its ownership interest in its fantasy sports platform, Swush.com, to Danish tabloid newspaper Ekstra Bladet. In 2017 the market was further modified and online bingo and online and land-based betting on horse and dog racing were also liberalised expanding the independent market even further.


Danske Licens saw an increase in revenues in 2024 to


DKK1.63bn mostly driven by the expansion of online casino games, increased customer engagement, and product development. Tere was a drop in revenues in 2023 mainly due to the sports betting sector and the introduction of more and new responsibility measures. Around 67 per cent of Danske Spil’s GGR last year came from online channels. Te company tested a new retailer app last year which will be fully implemented this year aimed at enhancing retailer communication and training, expanding scratch card sales to new retail formats. in Gross Gambling Revenues compared to DKK10.3bn in 2023. By comparison in 2019 the total GGR in Denmark was DKK11.2bn. Te 2024 revenue was made up of DKK7.26bn (€974.1m) in


revenues from land-based and online gaming (compared to DKK6.79bn the year previous) up 6.9 per cent year on year. Since 2012 the online gambling sector has been growing


steadily. Online casinos have the highest share of revenues with just over 48.5 per cent (DKK3.52bn) and saw an increase of 14.7 per cent compared to 2023. Tis is followed by the betting market with 30.3 per cent (DKK2.2bn), gaming machines with almost 16 per cent share (DKK1.16bn) and land-based casinos with five per cent (DKK368m). Since 2012 the share of GGR for online betting and online


casino gaming has increased from 31 per cent to 64 per cent in 2023. Te betting market is divided between 70 per cent played on mobiles, 15 per cent on computers and 14.5 per cent land- based betting. Te online casino market sees 78 per cent played via online slots with the rest on table games – blackjack being the most popular (6.6 per cent share). Some 63 per cent of games are played on mobiles compared to computers. Te gaming machine sector was worth DKK1.16bn in 2024 of

which almost 80 per cent came from games in arcades and the remainder from restaurants.
