YouGov analyses impact of tax rise Operator News

Two-thirds of UK sports bettors say a tax hike on sports betting would force customers to the illegal gambling black market, a shock new survey has found. A new YouGov survey for standards body the Betting and Gaming Council found 65 per cent of regular punters agreed increased taxes, “would make customers turn to unregulated betting sites that don’t have to pay any tax at all.” Te Government is now consulting on a

major change to the way betting and gaming is taxed online, sparking fears it will make betting on sports like racing and football, more expensive. Sporting betting and online gaming

is currently taxed at different rates, but last month the Treasury launched a new consultation titled Te Tax Treatment of Remote Gambling, proposing a single new tax.

Fears for future of legal gaming in Colombia Legislation

Te Colombian Federation of Entrepreneurs in Games of Chance and Luck (Fecoljuegos) has raised concerns regarding Decree 0572, which requires advance collection of withholding tax for 2026. Tis new requirement adds to the existing 19 per cent

VAT on online games introduced earlier in 2025 to address a public order emergency in Catatumbo. Te VAT will remain in effect until the end of 2025 even though the crisis has been resolved. According to the organisation’s statement, Decree 0572

adds to a series of disproportionate fiscal decisions that are suffocating a key industry for the country’s economy and public health. It said “each new tax burden excessively increases operational costs, reduces the sector’s capacity to generate formal employment, limits investment in innovation, and weakens competitiveness in the face of the growth of the illegal market, which is favoured by the lack of equitable conditions.” Fecoljuegos argued the measures were pushing the legal

gaming industry to the brink of collapse that would mean the disappearance of companies, the loss of thousands of direct and indirect jobs, and a “drastic reduction in the resources that, through exploitation rights, are allocated to financing the health of Colombians.”

been put in place in the state for over a decade. It would require a bill, presumably, from the government, to knock over that restriction, and I’m not going to do it.” Independent Sydney MP Alex Greenwich

said: “With gambling harm on the rise, we need less venues with large poker machine floors, not new ones right on the harbour.” Te move comes as the NSW Government

said it welcomed a NSW Auditor General’s Performance Audit into regulation of gaming machines under the Gaming Machines Act 2001, with both relevant Government agencies accepting its recommendations.
