he term Latin America refers to regions of the Western Hemisphere where the common
and national languages are Spanish, Portuguese, or French, all of which derive from Latin. Tese languages are rooted in the colonial history dating back to the late fifteenth century, as the regions were once part of the colonial empires of Spain, Portugal, or France.
