NATURALS The results of facial sebum detection by

VC98 indicated that the sebum area decreased significantly after applying 5% LC for three hours compared with the control groups and the reduction rate reached 15.65%. The case of individual sebum area is shown in Figure 3B. Three hours after cleaning, the sebum area

in the LC group was significantly reduced. Notably, no adverse events were reported from the participants or investigators during and after the application periods.

Four-week oily skin evaluation In order to evaluate the long-term clinical efficacy of LC on skin surface sebum, we also examined the sebum content and sebum area on the oily skin subjects before and after four weeks using the serum containing 5% LC by Sebumeter SM815 and Sebfix VC98 (Figure 4A). Sebumeter’s test results of forehead sebum

showed that there was no significant difference in skin sebum content between the control groups and the experimental groups before using the samples. After using the serum containing 5% LC for two weeks (W2), the skin sebum content of the experimental groups decreased significantly compared with the vehicle group at zero, three and six hours after cleaning. The decline rates were 14.2%, 9.36% and 5.99% respectively. After using the serum containing 5% LC

for 4 weeks (W4), the skin sebum content of the experimental groups also decreased significantly compared with the vehicle group at zero, three and six hours after cleaning. The decline rates were 19.03%, 10.95% and 8.58% respectively. The results detection by Sebfix VC98

indicated that the sebum area variation reduced after applying 5% LC for two and four weeks compared with baseline and the reduction rate reached 20.4% and 24.3% (Figure 4B), while vehicle group also showed a reduction compared to baseline because of subject individual differences and seasonal factors. The case of individual sebum area is shown in Figure 4C. Two and four weeks after use, the sebum

area in the LC group was significantly reduced after cleaning three hours. No adverse events were reported from the participants or investigators during and after the application periods. Pores generate as facial skin release the

sebum from sebaceous glands. When the production of sebum is excessive, due to environmental stress, genetic predisposition or pathological skin conditions, the pore ducts can be clogged and the pores appear enlarged.27 Therefore, the reduction of the number of

facial pores is also one of the manifestations of ameliorating skin sebum secretion. Typical images taken by the VISIA were used to determine skin pores count in Figure 5. The results of analysis revealed that the variation of pores was decreased by 12.04% after using the 5% LC for four weeks (W4) compared with the vehicle group (Figure 5A). The case of individual subjects is shown in the figure below (Figure 5B). Four weeks after

Figure 4: Clinical efficacy of LC in oily skin for long-term. A: In a randomized controlled blinded half- side comparison study, significant reduction in the skin surface sebum of forehead was observed by Sebumeter SM815 after two and four weeks of topical application of the serum contained 5% LC. B: The sebum area variation reduction was also observed by Sebfix VC98. C: The case of individual subject #3 sebum area by VC98 is shown. (*** P≤0.001 vs vehicle group)

use, the count of skin pores detected by VISIA in the LC group was significantly reduced after cleaning, while the vehicle group showed an increase. However, there was no significant difference between the two groups due to large individual differences between subjects.

Conclusion Firstly, two novel compositions of Lotus corniculatus seed extract (Smopore LC) were identified to 5’-o-rhamnosyluridine (T1) and quercitrin (T2). In our previous study, it was found that 0.004% quercetin inhibited

lipogenesis on 3T3-L1 preadipocytes after stimulated by cocktail,28

while 0.004%

5’-o-rhamnosyluridine reduced short-term sebum secretion on oily skin. A study on oily skin found that 5% Smopore

LC significantly reduced sebum content and sebum area after a single application for three to six hours compared to the vehicle group. With continued use for two to four weeks, LC also significantly reduces sebaceous gland activity and reduces sebum content. In sebum area, LC did not calculate a

significant difference, but showed an inhibitory March 2024 PERSONAL CARE
