Secure, Scratch-Free Testing of High-Voltage Plug Connectors

new, simplified test solution for the functional testing of power modules with integrated plug con- nectors, the HKF-615 high-cur- rent clamp. the protection cover is released and then the cover is displaced, allowing clearance of the flat con- nector. The contacts that actually transmit the power are brought into position over the flat connec- tor in the same way. An electrical connection is made between the flat connector and the contact clip in the subsequent working position. Con- tacting itself occurs simultaneously through silver rivets with a large surface area, resulting in a secure current transmission of up to 225A.

the electrical contact is broken before the probe draws the protection cover back over the flat connec- tor and the test probe is returned to its home posi- tion. The contact is entire- ly scratch-free and is made in a single working step. This saves consider- able time and cost. Measurements made by a thermal imaging camera will reveal that the hottest point on the contact area is between the contact clamp and the unit under test (UUT). The current strength


is specified by the temper- ature profile. This profile stabilizes when the cur- rent is stable. At 225A, the difference of the atmos- pheric temperature is typi- cally 72°F (40°C) lower than the temperature of the clamp (DT = 40 K). Therefore, based on an atmospheric temperature of 69.8°F (21°C), a temperature of approximately 141.8°F (61°C) can be expect- ed. When a maximum permissible temperature is specified, the maximum current possible can then be determined. In a similar way, Kelvin measurements can be carried out.
