May, 2018 Microchip Unveils Industrial MPU-Based SOM

Chandler, AZ — Microchip Technology has unveiled a new system on module (SOM) that con- tains the SAMA5D2 MPU. The ATSAMA5D27- SOM1, which includes the recently released ATSAMA5D27C-D1G-CU system in package (SiP), simplifies design by integrating the power man- agement, non-volatile boot memory, Ethernet PHY and high-speed DDR2 memory onto a small, sin- gle-sided PCB. The SAMA5D2 family of products is designed

to provide an extremely flexible design experience no matter the level of expertise. The SOM, which integrates multiple external components and elim- inates key design challenges around EMI, ESD and signal integrity, can be used to expedite devel- opment time. Customers can solder the SOM to the board and take it to production, or use it as a ref-

erence design along with the free schematics, design and Gerber files and complete bill of mate-

rials available online. Customers can also transi- tion from the SOM to the SiP or the MPU itself, depending on design needs. All products are backed by Microchip’s customer-driven obsoles- cence policy which ensures availability to cus- tomers for as long as needed. The Arm® Cortex® A5-based SAMA5D2 SiP,

mounted on the SOM PCB or available separately, integrates 1 Gb DDR2 memory, simplifying the design by removing the high-speed memory inter- face constraints from the PCB. Impedance match- ing is done in the package, not manually during development, so the system will function properly at normal and low-speed operation. Three DDR2 memory sizes, 128 Mb, 512 Mb and 1 Gb, are avail- able for the SAMA5D2 SiP and optimized for bare metal, real-time operating system (RTOS) and Linux implementations. The SAMA5D2 family provides

high levels of security, including PCI compliance, providing an excellent platform for customers to create secured designs. With integrated Arm TrustZone® and capabilities for tamper detection, secure data and program storage, hardware encryp- tion engine, secure boot and more, customers can work with Microchip’s security experts to evaluate their security needs and implement the

right level of protection. Contact: Microchip Technology,

stable plastic design was developed specifically for use in demanding environmental conditions. It is high- ly resistant to climatic influences, such as UV exposure, as well as to shock and vibration. Due to its IP68 and IPX9K ratings, it can be used for high-pressure washdown applica- tions in the industrial, agricultural and chemical industries. Features include: UL approval,

CSA and VDE in preparation; IP68 and IPX9K ratings; bayonet locking; 0.004 to 0.009 in.2 (2.5 to 6 mm2) crimp terminations; and 8- and 12-
