Governors Report to Stakeholders (continued) The music block toilets were also upgraded.

Governors have supported Dr. Riding in his efforts to secure investment from the Priority School Building Programme 2 to fund the building of a new state of the art Maths/Science/Design block that should be ready for use in spring 2019. The Local Authority has also agreed to refurbish the main block of the school.

These developments are in line with our ‘Master Plan’ site upgrade strategy that is designed to ensure that the school has the world class buildings and facilities that our students, staff and community deserve.

Other actions of the Governing Board Our Chair was appointed to serve on the Education Transformation and Design Task Group, the aim of which is to ‘create a strong, self-improving, self-sustaining school-led system to improve educational outcomes for every child in Wiltshire’.

The Board is supported in carrying out its functions by efficient clerking.

Agendas and Minutes of governor meetings are available at the school to view on request.

Guy Davies,

Significant challenges faced In past reports I have highlighted the issue of poor attendance. As noted above, the situation has very much improved over the last year, with attendance for all Key Stages the best it has ever been. For which I offer congratulations to staff, parents and students.

Wiltshire schools are among the 7th worst funded in England, which means our staff have to work extra hard and the budget needs to be carefully managed. A new Fairer Funding Formula is due to be introduced from April 2018, which should help matters somewhat.

The mental health of school children is the focus of national attention, but insufficient resources are aimed at addressing this concern. Matravers is playing a leading role in supporting student mental health and wellbeing via the Thrive Hub and through its excellent system of pastoral support.

Historically year groups have joined the school with below or significantly below national average levels of attainment. School leaders and staff work hard to ensure all our students exceed expectations regardless of starting points. We are playing our part in seeking to raise educational standards for all school children in the Westbury area.
