Year 10 (continued)

Resilient It’s tough to get out of bed on those dark cold mornings in November and Decmber: we know that! Research suggests that any student with less than 95% attendance is at risk of dropping a grade across ALL of their subjects. At 90%, this is almost guaranteed. This is why we put attendance in the centre of our rewards scheme and why you may have noticed more contact from school, should your child have been off. Of course, there are genuine reasons for being off but we need to get all students to the point of knowing that a cough or a sniffle does not merit time off school and that GCSEs need complete commitment. Building this resilience is something we need to do together. If you need any advice on improving your child’s attendance, please do contact us. Communications is Key!

Future Leaders Award students, commandeering a passing helicopter: now that’s leadership!

Teamwork at Beechen Cliff! REWARDS

Our year’s reward system:10.6 won Term 1!

Dynamic One of the most exciting things happening in Year 10 at the moment is the Future Leaders group, which is operated in partnership with Beechen Cliff School in Bath. This consists of 12 hand-picked students who have been chosen for their leadership potential. Most Mondays after school have been spent in Bath, learning the nuts and bolts of leadership and preparing to apply their knowledge to a project specific to Matravers. What this gives Year 10 is an additional leadership strand from which to choose our future prefects, Head Boy and Head Girl, which, coupled with our sports leaders and Cadet Force, gives us an incredibly rich seam to mine from and a year group which is deeply involved in major parts of what makes Matravers great.

The enthusiasm shown by the students taking this project has been excellent and it’s going to be an exciting year watching them grow their projects with their mentors. More to follow next year!

Successful We love to recognise the great stuff that Year 10 get involved in and every week we tot up reward points and clubs involvement, attendance and punctuality in tutor groups. The winning group receive specialist (healthy!) Downsino’s ™ pizzas. We also celebrate every assembly with ‘Hot Choc Tuesday’, where the students get a nice warm cupful to say well done for a great week, either by their tutors or teachers.

10.6-winners of Term 1, tucking in!
