Drama (continued)

THINGS I KNOW TO BE TRUE TRIP

The Drama Department organised a trip to see Frantic Assembly’s critically acclaimed production of Things I Know To Be True on Wednesday 22 November 2017 at The Lighthouse, Poole. This trip was organised to meet the requirement of the AQA A-Level Drama and Theatre specification in that students must see a live theatre performance, which our Year 13 students will answer questions about in their Component 1 written examination in the summer term. We hope that by watching this performance the students were provided with a highly engaging experience, which will develop their understanding of live theatre and ensure they have plenty to write about in their examination.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST – STUDENT REVIEWS

This year our school put on an amazing production of Beauty and the Beast. I enjoyed it when Belle ar- rived at the castle that belonged to the Beast because you could clearly understand how scared she was. She also demonstrated how much she cared for her father because she sacrificed her freedom so that her father could be free, demonstrating how close the two are. Chelsea Foy - 10.1

INTRODUCTION TO

GCSE DRAMA Some of our Year 10 GCSE pupils discuss what they have covered so far this year during their introduction to GCSE Drama:

Exploration of Physical Skills - Lecoq’s Seven Levels of Tension This year we have discussed and explored the seven levels of tension. One way which we explored this technique was through the improvisation of different scenes

The seven levels of tensions allows us to explore our different characters and how they feel in different situations e.g. somebody in a haunted house would be at level 5 which is ‘suspense’. I have learnt through this how to fully express the character I am rehearsing and performing as, something especially useful for preparing for our practical exams as I was able to convey my character’s emotions better. Drew Lanfear - 10.3

Seven levels of tension is how your character acts. For example, for level one you would be relaxed whereas level seven you see you being very angry and/or nervous. We explored seven levels of tension by analysing how people reacted in different scenes. I have learnt from this exploration that you can understand how actors can apply acting skills when performing believable characters. Liam Bailey - 10.1

Introduction to Live Review - Peter Pan

We have conducted a live review of the National Theatre’s version of ‘Peter Pan’. We watched the performance in order to develop our understanding of how to conduct a live review of the actors’ performance. So far I’ve learnt when I am reviewing an actor I must take in what acting skills they’re using, how they’re using them and how effectively they’re using them. Liha Leggett - 10.2

Peter Pan was performed at the National Theatre at Christmas in 2016. We are studying this review to understand how to point out the acting skills and physical skills being used by the actors, as well as understanding how to write a descriptive paragraph which also analyses and evaluates the work. I have learnt how to point out acting skills and how to identify, describe, analyse and evaluate the work of

professionals. Olivia Boddy - 10.2

Exploration of Voice

– Macbeth Witches This year we have learnt how the witches in Macbeth use voice during performance. We explored the scene where the witches cast a spell in order to understand how voice can be applied to engage an audience and create convincing characters. In order to develop our work we also evaluated the work of our peers by identifying, analysing and evaluating how they used vocal skills in their performance. From this topic I have learned a variety of different vocal skills and how to use them in performance to create engaging characters. Ashlinn McAllister-Bell - 10.4

We performed as the witches in Macbeth in order to take advantage of our use of voice, helping us to expand our range of voice to convey the characteristics of the characters.. I have learned from this how to improve my acting and how to use voice. Cody Sheppard - 10.5

Application of physical and vocal skills – Blood Brothers Assessment

This year we have completed a practical assessment using a scene from Blood Brothers. In this scene, Mickey had been upset by his older brother, Sammy, however Mickey stole Sammy’s air pistol and shows it off to Linda. The two of them then go to get Eddie, his new best friend, to try out the air pistol in the park. From completing tis practical assessment, I have learnt how to improve both my vocal and physical skills as an actor. William Woodman - 10.5
