YEAR 10 YEAR 10 NEWS FROM MR DOWNES
Progress Leaders put the school’s core values at the heart of everything we do. They provide consistency of purpose and a reason for our efforts. Students can’t always see the bigger picture but when we aim things at a particular value or are able to relate something to one, we instantly provide a context the students understand and are able to connect with.
Ambitious The serious business of thinking about the future begins in earnest in Year 10. They’ve chosen their options and thought about careers, through the use of web research and conversations with tutors, leading to the Year 9 ‘Little Interview’. To reinforce these excellent first steps, Year 10 have a further, excellent opportunity to expand their experience of the job hunting process. Whereas last year they simply wrote personal statements and were interviewed on the strength of these, this time they are preparing full CVs where they will again be matched with someone from an appropriate industry (where possible). The employees holding the interviews are from as wide a range of industries as possible and this year we are delighted to have Job Centre plus, MG Cannon, Longleat, Clarkson Evans, 3AAA Apprenticeships, Wessex Water and Keyford.
Happy Once again our year group are heavily involved in helping out in the school production, with 10 students either on stage or helping out with the technical side, Year 10 contribute a large proportion of what is needed to make our shows such a success. The students who take part at this stage of school have to show real drive and positivity, fitting in GCSE/BTEC studies with the demands of after school and weekend rehearsals and late night show times. These are students that get involved every year and want to help bring great performances to the school and wider community. It is always a proud moment for me, seeing them doing their stuff and I can’t wait to watch this year’s performance.
Matthew Prudence, bringing the noise.
Creative The options process has given Year 10 the opportunity to really explore their creative sides. Whether it be dancing, acting, cooking, designing, photographing, filming, sewing, sculpting, painting, programming or writing; being able to spend more on something they have chosen really is a fantastic opportunity to for students to get more experience doing what they love. We’ve already seen catering students involved in ‘Masterchef’ and Design students produce some beautiful 3D work. The breadth of the offer of ‘open’ subjects (those not core or EBacc), really does provide a balanced and varied school experience, which should, in time, help students decide where to head for next.
My Favourite class to visit! Thanks to Miss Savage for the action pics.
