YEAR 8

Once again, I have been amazed by the engagement and productivity of the year group in a plethora of activities so far this year. They have immersed themselves in Matravers School life and the School ethos whole-heartedly. This engagement has been seen throughout the curriculum in lessons and after school clubs as well as other school activities such as the School production with various Year 8’s in key roles and supporting cast ranging from audio and lights, playing instruments and part of the chorus.

“Hi I am Annie, also known as Chip the T

eacup. I have really

enjoyed Beauty and the Beast. It has been so fun, I have loved working with all the teachers, and all the wonderful cast. It is a huge responsibility being a main character because I have had to learn lines, songs and

who is managing all the lights for the show. Even though I don’t have a huge amount of experience, and might miss a few of the cues, it has been a really enjoyable experience working behind the scenes and up in the box above it all. Mr

oung has been great as have Matthew and Lee helping me out, plus climbing the ladder every time is really fun. I feel extremely privileged to be able to be the lights technician and I hope that you have enjoyed the show as much as I have being a part of it.”

points, School value points, percentage attendance of the tutor group and weekly challenges being thrown in to test tutor groups. All of these aspects contribute to each tutor group being awarded points and pitched against the other tutor groups. Last term 8.4 where the most successful tutor group with over 50% of the possible winnings going their way. At present, it’s a closely fought competition, with 8.1 and 8.4 yet to win, however time is still left to draw level with all other tutor groups who have one win each and ready to win the prize of a film afternoon with Pizza as a reward. Attendance is always a key issue in learning and at present Year 8’s are doing really well with an overall attendance of 97% which is really encouraging and builds a strong foundation to meet and exceed targets.

The great start individuals and the year group have made has been clear to see by the number of emails I receive from members of staff praising and complimenting the year group. This can also be seen by the number of School Value points that have been awarded to the year group across the six core values. Over 6,500 have been awarded to Year 8 which is a staggering amount, reflecting their hard work and diligence in their lessons and in and around the School. I have also had the pleasure to write nearly 250 separate postcards and send them home informing and highlighting parents/guardians of the school’s acknowledgement of pupils attitudes, accomplishments and hard work which is a great position to be in and as a Progress Leader to see my year group excel and move from strength to strength is wonderful.
