Rehm Develops Curtain Nozzle for Conformal Coating

Roswell, GA — Rehm has developed a new curtain nozzle, the VarioFlex, for highly-selective confor- mal coating. Built for use with the company’s Protecto systems, the VarioFlex nozzle is designed to meet the requirements of high-speed and preci- sion applications. The nozzle’s slim extension arm can coat dense-

ly-populated assemblies without difficulty. The “lac- quer curtain” is applied as a closed film without spray mist and with a precise edge sharpness. The VarioFlex’s integrated turning unit is capable of automatically turning the nozzle by 90° and an internal sensor query supports the applicator’s exact angular positioning to achieve high process speeds.

The VarioFlex curtain nozzle is extremely VarioFlex curtain nozzle.

easy to maintain and is furnished with a special PTFE coating, allowing lacquer buildup on the surface of the unit to be removed easily. The appli- cator’s elaborate design also contributes to this ease of maintenance. Due to its self-centering noz- zle receptacle, the nozzle can be dismantled and then reassembled again in exactly the same way without complicated readjustment. A special sol- vent bath with integrated brushes and fill level monitoring is also available. This can be initiated periodically during the process or automatically during an interruption in production. Semi-auto- matic cleaning during material exchange is possi- ble in only a few minutes. All techni- cal control elements, including the cleaning equipment, are integrated into the system and are easily acces- sible for maintenance activities. The nozzle’s curtain width can

be programmed using an automatic pressure regulator and a high-preci- sion sensor. Up to five different parameter sets with beam widths of 3 to 20 mm (0.1 to 0.8 in.) can be retrieved during the application of an assembly. With offline programming, the operator can also create the coat- ing program at an external worksta- tion and then upload the coating pro-

gram to the machine as needed. Contact: Rehm Thermal

with IP65, IP67, IP68/NEMA 6P, and IP69K standards and provide cus- tomers with reliable solutions for industrial environments while mini- mizing upfront costs and downtime. Standard products are not subject to minimum order quantity require- ments. Cordsets are available from 0.6, 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, and 20m (1.9, 3.2, 9.8, 16.4, 32.8, 49.2, and 65.6 ft) stan- dard put-up lengths. Custom designs
