to buffer disruptions. In addition, NEO Tech’s test de-

velopment team created a dedicated test rack system capable of achieving the customer’s test requirements and also an advanced test fixture design that has the capability to substan- tially increase the test measurement precision well beyond what had pre- viously been available on the market.

Backup Power Products Another customer of NEO Tech,

an American OEM of backup power products for residential and industri- al markets, needed improved time- to-market as well as competitive and flexible manufacturing. Previously, the company had worked with an

OEM in Asia to produce its wireless remote monitoring and control de- vices. The extended supply chain dis- tance from the market in the U.S. caused issues with flexibility and service levels. A next-generation re- design upgrade also was behind schedule. NEO Tech provided a combined

solution of engineering services and design revision to the wireless inter- face, as well as production at its Agave site. The company conducted an initial DFM review on the new product. Prototypes of an improved design were built with additional VA/VE recommendations to validate the needed changes and delivered 10 days after receipt of the initial design PO. NEO Tech collaborated with an industrial design partner to rapidly produce mechanical samples and en- able the completion of the design, and help get the program schedule back on track.

Lab Equipment OEM A large, diversified North

American OEM of laboratory equip- ment was seeking help consolidating its PCB supply across its divisions. NEO Tech’s Otay Mesa facility en- abled the customer to increase flexi- bility and cost savings. The customer originally had numerous U.S.-based production locations that all needed low-volume high-mix PCB suppliers, with each location managing its own local sourcing — mostly through small EMS companies. The customer faced frequent obsolescence-related supply disruptions because its prod- ucts had long lifecycles. Some of the products were complex to build and beyond the processing ability of the small EMS providers. NEO Tech consolidated the

PCB business from eight of the cus- tomer’s divisions at its Otay Mesa site, with over 250 active assemblies. Later, it was expanded to include 12 total divisions. Extensive engineer- ing and supply chain actions were taken to mitigate obsolescence issues with identification and focus on “at risk” parts, increasing materials availability. Sourcing support was of- fered to migrate the customer’s ap- proved vendor list to NEO Tech sup- pliers, decreasing material costs. The company also began manufacturing higher-level assemblies and box builds. NEO Tech reduced transfer risk with an onboarding “pull” team to ensure that product information and knowledge was documented and transferred to the customer. Asian sourcing for many medical

and industrial products destined for North American markets is losing fa- vor for many reasons, including rising labor and transportation costs, painful disruptions due to lengthy supply chains, and lack of IP security. For many, manufacturing in China and other offshore locations is neither cost- effective nor flexible. Instead, manu- facturers are bringing production clos- er to home. Nearshoring is today’s so- lution because it allows companies to reduce supply chain risk while streamlining operating costs. Contact: NEO Tech, 9340
