Day 6: Iguassu Falls Cross the border this morning to the Argentinian side of the falls that brings you to the brink so that you can experience the tremendous roar of the cascading waters. Follow pathways to the top of the falls providing unique views of the ‘Cataratas’, amidst the abundant flora and fauna that rely on the lush green vegetation. The highlight will be when you are on a suspended platform at the very brink of the ‘Devil’s Throat’ – the largest fall in the park. (B)
Day 7: Iguassu Falls – Salvador View the falls from the Brazilian perspective, descending the canyon to offer panoramic views of over 240 falls. Then take the glass elevator up the cliff face for an exquisite view from the upper deck over the most significant remaining rainforest in the southern corner of South America, which along with the
waterfalls, have been declared a World Heritage Site. Fly in the evening to Salvador and transfer to the Pestano Bahia Hotel for 3 nights. (B)
Day 8: Salvador Today is free to explore the historic city of Salvador at your own pace – the colourful capital of the Bahia state and former Brazilian capital. Historic Salvador includes the colonial district of Pelourinho with its colourful buildings and winding cobblestone streets and San Francisco church. Salvador is also the birthplace of the Samba-Chula music movement, a seminal but dying art that forms the basis of Brazil’s contemporary music culture and fulfils a role similar to that of delta blues in the United States. Salvador is one of the few places where you can still experience Samba-Chula sounds spilling over on its streets and bars. Finish your day with sunset at Solar do Unhão, an old sugar mill consisting of a few beautifully preserved buildings set on the waterfront, an ideal place to escape bustling Pelourinho, relax sipping caipirinhas and watching the sun hide behind the island of Itaparica. (B)
Day 9: Salvador Begin your day by visiting a traditional Brazilian food market, Brazil’s food is as diverse as its people and Bahia – surrounded by the bay and ocean – is heavily reliant on a plentiful array of seafood as its fishermen are protected by Yemanjá the goddess of the sea. Visit Agua dos Meninos fish market. From there it’s a short hop to the Sao Joaquim market, a vital trading link to the abundant produce from the farming hinterland and the largest open-air market in Brazil, where the colourful sights and unique smells will tantalize your taste buds. Continue your tour with lunch and a cooking lesson on how to prepare a moqueca, a traditional Brazilian seafood stew. (B/L)
Day 10: Salvador – London Say goodbye to Brazil and transfer to the airport for your flight to London via São Paulo. (B)
