Lunch will be taken with a typical Jordanian family in the nearby rural village of Rassoun. This is the perfect way to get to know more about the genuine hospitality and people of the Middle East before returning to your own accommodation in Amman. (B/L)
Day 4: Mount Nebo – Madaba – Um ar-Rasas It is written that Mount Nebo was the place where the Hebrew prophet, Moses, was shown the Promised Land that God was giving to the Israelites. From Nebo’s summit, which is just less than 3,000ft above sea level, you can gaze upon the panoramic view yourself and on a clear day it is possible to see the cities of Jericho and Jerusalem. After you’ve marvelled at the biblical vista it is time to move onwards to the City of Madaba which is also known as the City of Mosaics. The Basilica of Saint George will be just one of the many sites of interest that you’ll encounter on a guided tour of the city. Leave Madaba and travel south to the walled city of Um ar-Rasas which is an archaeological site containing ruins from Roman, Byzantine and Muslim civilisations. Accommodation for the next 2 nights
will be in the magical city of Petra at the Taybet Zaman Hotel. (B)
Day 5: Petra – Petra Kitchen Today, as you journey through giant red mountain passes, you will begin to feel like you’ve stepped back in time to an age where travelling merchants and nomadic caravans crossed the desert in search of prosperity. However, nothing completely prepares you for the breathtaking spectacle of the carved city of Petra. Once you’ve left the red rock carvings of Petra you’ll be asked to undertake some carving of your own for your evening meal. The Petra Kitchen is not your every day run-of-the-mill restaurant as the customer is in the kitchen learning how to chop, whisk and peel Jordanian style. This is a fun, relaxed and educational experience which enables you to find out more about the local cuisine at the same time as meeting some of the local people including the professional and helpful chef. (B/D)
Day 6 : Wadi Rum – The Dead Sea Spa Hotel If you’ve ever wanted to follow in the footsteps of the Bedouin, then this is the place to be. Your journey begins
on the back of a jeep as you venture deep into the heart of the Wadi Rum desert to experience shifting sand dunes, narrow canyons and some magnificent mountain backdrops. This is the perfect environment for trekking to waterholes, discovering rock drawings and simply getting away from it all. The endless space and tranquillity of the desert is inspirational and you’ll be able to find out more about the Bedouin culture and lifestyle at lunch which is held at the Bedouin Hillawi Campsite. After your meal it’s time to head back to more contemporary civilisation as you travel to your final 2 night’s accommodation at the Dead Sea Spa Hotel. (B/L)
Day 7: The Dead Sea Float on the Dead Sea or relax by the hotel pool. This is your day to spend exactly as you wish. (B)
Day 8: Amman – London Say goodbye to the mosaics, sand and mystical views of Jordan and return to London on a non-stop flight with Royal Jordanian Airlines. (B)
