Day 4: Machu Picchu – Cusco Today experience one of South America’s treasures – Machu Picchu. Transfer by rail in the Vistadome train, which provides panoramic views throughout your journey, ensuring you won’t miss any of the astounding Peruvian mountains. Stop at the town of Aguas Calientes, then transfer by road to the citadel located at the top of the mountain, appreciating the most amazing urban creation of the Inca empire. Take the train to Cusco for 2 nights stay at the Eco Inn. (B/L)
Day 5: Cusco Day at leisure. Optional morning Cusco tour, to include the main square, the San Pedro Market and the San Blas bohemian neighbourhood. (B)
Day 6: Cusco – Lima – Quito Fly in the morning via Lima to Quito, Ecuador’s lofty capital–spread across an Andean valley and flanked by volcanic peaks. Stay 2 nights at La Rabida Hotel. (B)
Day 7 – Quito Spend the day in Quito with its innumerable monuments or trendy bars and cafés in New Town. Take a walking tour through the historic centre, which is a maze of colonial splendour. Your tour includes the colonial architecture of Independence Plaza, the Presidential Palace, the Municipal Building and the Archbishop’s palace. Visit the Temple of La Compania de Jesus and continue to the monastery of San Francisco home to some of South America’s most delicate relics. Also there will be excursions available to book locally. Day 8: Quito – Baltra Fly in the morning to Baltra in the Galapagos Islands and transfer to the M/Y Galaxy motor yacht for 3 nights. (B/L/D)
Day 9: Floreana Island Travel to Floreana Island for your introduction to some of the Galapagos’ richly diverse wildlife. Cormorant Point is famed for its birdlife – notably flamingos – then visit Devil’s Crown, a small underwater caldera and a prime snorkelling spot. Post a letter at the Barrel Post Office – the rule is if you see a letter
addressed to near where you live you have to deliver it yourself. Finish the tour today at the Mirador de la Baronesa. (B/L/D)
Day 10: Espanola Island Arrive in the morning to Espanola Island, famed for its large number of endemic creatures such as the Marine Iguana, the Hood Mocking Bird, Blue Footed Booby and Waved Albatross. (B/L/D)
Day 11: San Cristobal – Guayaquil After breakfast arrive at San Cristobal Island, home to many of the wild tortoises the islands are famed for, visit the Interpretation Centre – which explains the natural processes that make the Galapagos so unique, focusing on human discovery, natural history and conservation. Fly in the afternoon from San Cristobal to Guayaquil, and transfer to Grand Hotel for an overnight stay. (B/L/D)
Day 12: Guayaquil – London Your day will be spent at leisure in Guayaquil, Ecuador’s economic capital and most populous city, located on the western banks of the Guayas River. Fly overnight from Guayaquil to London via Madrid with Iberia. (B)
