Day 6: Wushan or Badong – Zhongxian After departing Wushan or Badong you pass through the Wu (Witches Gorge), Qutang Gorges and Baidicheng (White King City) disembarking at the Shennong Lesser Gorges, a nature reserve with wild, unspoiled scenery and crystal blue waters.
Day 7: Zhongxian – Chongqing Leaving the port in Zhongxian sail past the historic city of Wanxian, gateway to eastern Sichuan. Finish your trip with the opportunity to visit the intriguing ‘ghost city’ of Fengdu. Rich in Chinese folklore stating the city is home to devils, it is however undeniably beautiful and an intrinsic part of China’s unparalleled history. Or visit the temple of Shibaozhai, literally meaning ‘Stone Treasure Fortress’: first built during the Qing Dynasty, its 12-storey wooden pagoda rises dramatically against a 30m–high rock outcropping along the Yangtze. The walk to the top will provide a stunning photo vantage over the river and local villages. (B/L/D)
Day 8: Chongqing Arrive in Chongqing this morning and enjoy a tour of the old town with many scenic and historic spots dating back 3,000 years ago and transfer to Chonqing Zoo for an exciting opportunity to see pandas playing and feeding as well as more than 230 kinds of rare wild animals including the Red Panda. In the late afternoon fly to Xi’an and check-in to Jian Guo Hotel for 2 nights. (B/L)
Day 9: Xi’an Visit the world-famous Terracotta Warriors, one of the greatest archaeological excavations of our time. These artifacts are associated with the Qing dynasty (211-206 BC). Also experience the dramatic Wild Goose Pagoda and the Great Mosque. (B/L)
Day 10: Xi’an – Beijing Fly in the morning to Beijing. In the afternoon visit the Summer Palace, an Oasis of serenity away from the bustly centre of Beijing, and described as the best-preserved imperial garden in the world. Stay 3 nights in the Xiyuan Hotel. (B/L)
Day 11: Great Wall of China A full day excursion to the Great Wall – undulating across some 5000km, a symbol of power steeped in the history of countless generations. The Mutianyu section is one of the best preserved parts of the Great Wall and your cable car journey is included. In the evening you have the opportunity to have an authentic Peking Duck dinner. (B/L/D)
Day 12: Beijing Have a morning T’ai Chi lesson – the traditional Chinese hard and soft martial art technique – followed by a visit to the Temple of Heaven, China’s largest sacrificial building symbolizing the relationship between heaven and earth and deftly illustrates the evolution of one of the Earth’s greatest civilizations. Finish the day at the Forbidden City, the iconic Chinese imperial palace from the Ming and Qing dynasty. (B/L)
Day 13: Beijing – London Return from Beijing on Air China directly to London. (B).
