Inside Story David Glover
motivated from building a team around them, then this business opportunity would defi nitely be of interest.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying their fi rst franchise? Do your research fi rst. It is very important to be clear on what sector of the market interests you and what transferable skills you have. There are plenty of franchise opportunities out there, but fi nding one that really interests you and gets you excited is important. Talk to other franchisors in diff erent sectors and at diff erent stages of their business life. You will then get a good overview of what to expect starting a business and the kind of investment you will need to make. Don’t look at franchising as a get-rich- quick scheme. All businesses require a lot of hard work and eff ort in the early days and you may not be able to take a more relaxed stance within the business until a few years in.
Also, it is important to realise that although this is a franchise, you will
ultimately be responsible for your own future and at some point you will largely be on your own and the captain of your own ship. Your input and your decisions will determine whether you succeed or not. However, if this vision excites you and is the driving force behind your consideration of a franchise, then go for it! Finally, look to see if your personal goals and dreams align with the business opportunity on off er. If you want to retire in under two years, then paid employment might be a better option rather than a franchise.
What are your plans for the future? To become the market leader in the provision of quality homecare services. On the business side, we have plans to complete our UK network in the next four years with set recruitment targets for 2018. We plan for two to three per cent growth
in care hours per annum across our UK offi ces, which would mean an increase of 150,000 care hours per annum across the network. We are also busy considering various
initiatives at the moment, all aimed at reducing costs and improving working effi ciency, both in the franchisee’s offi ce and for our care workers in the fi eld. Some of these are being trialled at present – for example, a new rostering system and care worker recruitment strategies. We are also looking at various paperless solutions, data storage options and diff erent apps to support care workers in their work.
The sector continues to grow and develop year on year but we are confi dent that we will continue to off er an exciting, relevant and worthwhile business opportunity for those looking to move into franchising.
