Franchise Focus A decade of success
Take a look at what Platinum Property Partners has achieved as it celebrates 10 years in business
INVESTMENT LEVEL: FROM £300,000* B
ack in 2007, the property market was booming. House prices were still on the rise, rents were high and the mortgage market was buoyant.
Platinum Property Partners (PPP) had been launched as a franchise that summer and all seemed rosy – but just months later, the fi nancial crisis hit.
Some people might assume that would be the end of the world’s fi rst property investment franchise before it had truly started to make its mark, but, instead, it was a time that proved how robust the model is and that fact continues to impress new franchisees today. Despite even more recent challenges that have faced the buy-to-let and wider property market, including increased legislation, landlord tax changes and the fallout from Brexit, the PPP model has prospered throughout. From humble beginnings, born out of what founder and chairman Steve Bolton calls the “best worst experience” of his life, and from an offi ce in his own home, PPP is now known as one of the fastest-growing premium franchises in UK history. Over the past 10 years, Steve and his
ever-growing team have helped more than 300 people to achieve fi nancial security and freedom. Take a look at the past decade in numbers: • 973: the total number of properties owned by the franchise partners
• 40 per cent: the increase in rental income achieved by the PPP buy- to-let model
• 15 per cent: the average return on investment
• £17,000: the amount of annual gross profi t each property generates after
all costs
• £300million: the combined value of franchise partner properties
• 94 per cent: franchise partners who say they have met or exceeded their fi nancial expectations within two years.
In addition, most of the franchise’s earliest partners are still with PPP today. Take Mike Dixon and Kim Thorogood, who, after seeing for themselves that the buy-to-let model could withstand market fl uctuations and remain profi table, took on roles as purchase and refurbishment mentors. Mike says: “What impressed me about Platinum all those years ago was the support network, as small as it was, and I always wanted to be part of that so I could give back and help others. I’d experienced what was supposed to be one of the worst property market crashes in history and the model still produced very satisfactory returns and I wanted to help others to build this type of business.” Together with another 50 property experts and professionals located around the country and 35 full-time support staff at the head offi ce, Mike and Kim run PPP’s
highly eff ective, intense and ongoing training programme.
It is this system and dedication from existing franchise partners that will make the next 10 years a success for PPP. Steve Bolton comments: “I am immensely proud of the entire team at Platinum and what we have achieved over the last decade. It was always my intention to build a business for the long term and to help other people to do the same, so I am delighted that we are celebrating such a milestone birthday and always had faith that the model would be sustainable. “The fact that we have stayed true to our founding principles and values while maintaining such high levels of success and satisfaction just goes to show the strength of our model and the determination of our franchise partners. “We will continue to operate with the same level of integrity and motivation for decades to come and look forward to welcoming new franchise partners joining us on this journey.” Make sure you visit Platinum Property Partners on stand M210 at The National Franchise Exhibition, taking place at the NEC, in Birmingham, on 13 and 14 October.
