t’s been 15 years since Anytime Fitness opened the doors to its fi rst health club, in Minnesota, Midwestern US. Since then, the company has expanded into fi ve continents and


has more than 3,600 clubs open globally, making it one of the fastest-growing franchise businesses in the world. Having outpaced other global franchising giants to reach 3,000 franchises, Anytime Fitness opened the fi rst UK club in 2010 and is currently the second-largest health club operator in Britain. Now, a mere seven years later, the organisation is celebrating the opening of the 125th UK club, in Cosham, Hampshire. Owned by veteran franchisee Mike Racz, Anytime Fitness Cosham represents much more than another health club opening – for Mike it is his fi fth franchise with Anytime Fitness in two years and presents a challenge he is keen to get his teeth into. Mike says: “I’ve always been passionate


about fi tness and have been involved with franchising for more than a decade. I was researching my next franchise opportunity. I attended one of The Franchise Exhibitions, and after hearing more about the company’s success in other countries it felt like a natural fi t.”


Anytime Fitness boasts a 99 per cent success rate in the UK and, typically, most clubs are cash positive by month six or seven. It’s no surprise that the organisation has been ranked the number-one ‘Top Global Franchise’ by Entrepreneur magazine in 2015 and 2016, and the number-one fi tness franchise for fi ve consecutive years.


“The Anytime Fitness model focuses on convenience, aff ordability and a friendly, non-intimidating club atmosphere,” says Mike. “This makes it appealing to members, especially when they factor in the 24/7 model. This all contributes to the overall success of the club and ultimately lends itself to franchisees being able to open another club, if they wish to do so. “The company’s commitment to


providing franchisees with everything they need – from marketing to business operations support – is one of the main reasons so many franchisees end up with a club that’s profi table within a short period of time.


“I plan to open another four clubs with Anytime Fitness, taking me to nine in total, which I believe is a clear demonstration of my confi dence in the Anytime Fitness franchise model.”

Anytime Fitness aims to be one of the UK’s largest gym operators in 2017, with


plans to have 160 clubs open by the end of the year. Anytime Fitness prides itself on being a high-investment brand with a high return for franchisees. Most Anytime Fitness clubs in the UK have an average of 1,100 members and are typically cash positive at 650 members. Despite Mike’s passion for fi tness, a background in the industry is not necessary. In fact, the majority of Anytime Fitness franchisees are from outside the industry and employ a local manager to take on the day-to-day running of the club.
