Franchise Focus An established winner

Create your own franchise success story with Franchisor of the Year winner Driver Hire

INVESTMENT LEVEL: FROM £35,000 A

s the British Franchise Association (bfa) celebrates its 40-year anniversary in 2017, Driver Hire, a leading and award-winning franchise

brand in the UK, is celebrating another notable milestone: 30 years of franchising. A specialist franchise operating in the recruitment sector, Driver Hire primarily provides candidates to the transport and logistics sector.

“Over the past 30 years, we’ve helped

hundreds of people from all walks of life fulfi l their dream of running their own business,” says Chris Chidley, Driver Hire’s CEO. “The strength of the brand and our business model means that we continue to generate large numbers of enquiries from new entrepreneurs wanting to become part of the Driver Hire success story.”

Record growth Enjoying a record level of turnover for its fourth consecutive year, Driver Hire has very eff ectively expanded its national network through franchising. In the fi nancial year 2016/17, the Driver Hire network exceeded £100million turnover for the fi rst time. This resulted in a full-year average franchisee turnover fi gure for a single unit of £1,106,427, compared with a UK average of £378,000, according to the 2015 bfa/NatWest Franchise Survey. This translates to average net profi t fi gures for a single franchise in the network of

Measureable results for new Guildford franchisee The Guildford offi ce was an already- established franchise in the Driver Hire network of 100-plus offi ces, but still had plenty of potential for further growth. On current trading fi gures, Driver Hire’s Guildford franchisee, Richard Bradshaw – who’s creating his own success story – is up 26 per cent on the same time last year. He should comfortably achieve his fourth consecutive year of growth since investing in his franchise in November 2014. The winner of Driver Hire’s 2015 New Start of the Year award, his turnover for the past two fi nancial years has exceeded the £1million mark. While Richard has had previous experience of franchising, he’d no previous experience in either recruitment or transport and logistics. Prior to buying his Driver Hire franchise, he’d been a manager and franchisee of two hotels in the US.

more than £120,000 per annum. This outstanding fi nancial performance for Driver Hire was accompanied by the silver award in the bfa HSBC 2017 Franchisor of the Year awards. Pip Wilkins, CEO of the bfa, says: “Driver Hire’s achievement is truly inspiring and, as judges, we couldn’t help but notice the team’s sheer dedication to its network of franchisees. We are excited to see how the business shapes itself in the near future.”

Franchisee Richard Bradshaw

He came across Driver Hire at a number of franchise exhibitions and was attracted to the brand because he saw recruitment as a stable business model with plenty of potential to increase sales. As part of his due diligence before investing, Richard visited the head offi ce to meet support staff and spent time with current franchisees in their own offi ces. He says: “I’d looked at several diff erent franchise options but the high turnover and earnings potential, clear trading areas, stability and integrity of Driver Hire won it for me.”

Advice to others looking to invest in a franchise Richard’s advice to would-be franchisees is: “If you don’t know what questions to ask, fi nd someone who knows what to ask on your behalf and seek specialist advice – you need to research exactly what you think you are buying. Given the choice, I’d certainly do it again. With franchising, I love being my own boss and being part of a recognised brand.”
