Franchise Focus A dream franchise

With Dream Doors’ franchisees coming from all professional backgrounds, there’s an opportunity waiting for you

INVESTMENT LEVEL: £25,000 D

ream Doors, a UK-based kitchen makeover company, has increased franchisees’ sales every year because of its unique consumer off ering:

made-to-measure replacement kitchen doors sold from locally owned franchised showrooms. Today, the average franchisee showroom sells more than £500,000 of projects every year, retaining an average of 15 to 20 per cent net profi t. Top showrooms turn over more than £1million. The replacement door sector is just a small part of the multi-billion-pound kitchen industry, but one that has proven to be incredibly profi table, providing a much sought-after and less-costly alternative to full kitchen refurbishments. With more than 60,000 kitchen makeovers to its name, there can be no doubt that the Dream Doors service is a resounding success. Providing replacement kitchen doors, drawers and worktops can save customers time and money, as well as minimising stress while the work is completed (an average job costs just £4,000 and is usually completed in just 48 hours). It’s a concept that is very popular with homeowners throughout the UK, but especially with the over 60s. And, as dozens of studies will show, it’s the over 60s – the baby boomer generation – who have the most disposable income to spend on their homes. Established 18 years ago with a single Hampshire-based showroom, Dream Doors now boasts over 75 showrooms nationwide. Interestingly, hardly any of the company’s franchisees came from the kitchen industry. In fact, Dream Doors franchisees have left a wide variety of careers behind them – from IT professionals and police offi cers to retailers and teaching assistants – with all benefi tting from an award-winning training programme.

New franchisees undertake a

comprehensive 13-week induction programme, which includes the initial setup phase, followed by three weeks of training at the company’s headquarters and those of its suppliers. Once the theoretical and classroom training is completed, each new franchisee spends days each week with an assigned business development manager

who will accompany them on sales calls, on surveys and, for the length of their franchise, provide consistent in- territory support. Kevin from Dream Doors Teesside says: “I can truly say that the support we have received has been outstanding – not only at the outset, but also ongoing, even once you are up and running. Each member of staff we’ve met has been very knowledgeable and professional, and is always both available and willing to help you in any area of the business. There is also a great sense of humour among the team; they all love to have fun while they work, which suits us fi ne – we feel that we fi t straight in to the Dream Doors family.” And with more new franchisees due for training this autumn, there are no signs of the recruitment drive slowing down. But Dream Doors prides itself on its elite network of hardworking franchisees, each with the professionalism and determination to create their own success. And, as such, each application is taken very seriously, with potential franchisees going

through a stringent assessment and due diligence process. Dream Doors has recently been shortlisted for three more Franchise Marketing Awards, taking its total franchise industry commendations to 40 in the last nine years. And with 11 wins so far, including Best Marketing Campaign and Best Franchisee Support, potential investors can be assured of the company’s focus on franchisee development. Former teacher Matt Jones of Truro, who joined Dream Doors in 2016, says: “I wanted to be my own boss and have control over how I work and the money I earn; Dream Doors ticked all the boxes – I have my freedom now. Dream Doors is the best thing I have ever done!”
