Franchise Focus Community spirit

Right at Home franchisee Julie Foote is making a profi t while giving back to her area

INVESTMENT LEVEL: FROM £38,000 A

fi nalist for Encouraging Women into Franchising’s Franchisee of the Year, Julie Foote has carved a role as a pioneer in community

healthcare while building a highly successful homecare business in East Lancashire.

She says: “I’ve actually had to scale back on the number of groups I was part of, as it got to the point where I was never home! “But creating this level of community integration, which is an important part of Right at Home’s operational model, has been really rewarding for me and the team. It’s also given us a strong presence in the area and cemented the credibility of my business.”

Julie and her team specialise in supporting people aff ected by dementia, off ering awareness sessions, tailored homecare support and even pet therapy

sessions with their trained dementia dog, Guinness.

Julie has also made it her mission to

improve healthcare awareness and social activity; she has launched a luncheon club, hosts social events and organises public discussion forums with medical experts in dementia and cancer.

A former accountant, Julie was one

of the fi rst franchisees to join Right at Home UK in 2011, after realising that she wanted to run a business with a stronger human impact.

She adds: “The caring ethic of the company appealed to me. Right at Home’s business model focuses on empathy; strong organisation and management skills; an insistence on the highest standard of care; and investing in people. I felt this was a good fi t.

“Having built it up from scratch, I’ve particularly enjoyed overseeing the personal development of staff who have

been with me since day one. “I think franchising is a great route into business, as it allows you to move into new sectors and to enjoy the benefi ts of being your own boss, while having access to support and a proven business model. I’d encourage anyone who is looking to open their own business to consider franchising among their options.”
