Subway opens 100th store in Northern Ireland

n Quick-service restaurant Subway has opened the doors to its 100th store in Northern Ireland. Located in Finaghy, South Belfast, the

store is owned by local businessmen Muhammad Aamir and Akhlaq Akhtar, who joined the brand in 2007 and already run two Subway franchises in the city. The Subway brand has undergone significant growth in Northern Ireland, with the first store opening 19 years ago, also in Belfast, and has created more than 1,500 new jobs.

The team responsible for this growth

are development agents Neil Black, Paul Heyes and Adam Heyes.

Neil says: “The Subway brand has been supported by the people of Northern Ireland, who have been loyal customers of ours for nearly 20 years. We’ve been lucky enough to work with an excellent group of franchisees. “We’re thrilled to be opening a milestone 100th store in the region. The future for the

Subway brand is certainly very exciting and we’re all looking forward to working with our franchisees to help them realise their potential and to continue to grow the brand across Northern Ireland.” Muhammad said: “We saw a lot of potential in this location, and there is a great community feel here.

“Akhlaq and I looked at many different franchise possibilities and a Subway franchise made sound business sense to us. We are also passionate about the product and love the fact that there are low-fat options available.” Akhlaq adds: “It is great to see the Subway brand expanding like this in Northern Ireland and to be a part of that momentum. We are so excited to open our third Subway store, and knowing it’s the 100th store in Northern Ireland is just the icing on the cake!”

The largest quick-service restaurant brand worldwide, there are currently over 44,000 Subway stores in 110 countries.

The Subway franchise recently announced plans to increase the number of stores across the UK and Ireland to 3,000 by 2020, creating around 5,000 new jobs. More than 70 per cent of all new Subway franchises sold worldwide are to existing owners.

Dream Doors’ business development manager becomes newest franchisee

n Dream Doors, the UK’s largest kitchen facelift retailer, has appointed its longstanding business development manager as the new franchisee for the Brighton area. Andy Hart joined Dream Doors in 2007, starting out as a design consultant for the Gosport-based showroom and later progressed on to join the management team supporting the brand’s 75 franchisees.

He says: “I have loved my time at Andy Hart

Dream Doors, and it’s been satisfying to see the franchisees I have helped train and support build successful and profitable businesses of their own. But now it’s my turn! “I know the products so well, and I know for a fact that the Dream Doors model works. The service we provide is incredibly versatile; we can offer as little or as much as any homeowner could possibly want in their kitchen, which is a huge selling point for clients.”

10 | BusinessFranchise.com | October 2017 Troy Tappenden, founder and managing

director of Dream Doors, says: “Although it saddens me that Andy will be leaving his role as an incredible business development manager, it also brings me joy that he is still part of the Dream Doors family and is following his aspirations. I have no doubt that someone as talented as Andy will perform well as a franchisee and will quickly build his very own successful business. His sales for the last few weeks have already proven that!” Andy’s first couple of months at the helm of Dream Doors Brighton have seen him take in £80,000 of sales. He says: “It’s a great start, and fantastic to be in the top 30 franchisees for June. We were only £9,000 away from being in the top 20 last month, too, and I’m very confident we’ll be there in the next few weeks.” Dream Doors will be at The National Franchise Exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham, on 13 and 14 October.
