Special Feature Optic-Kleer

Dene Jefferson

Dene is Optic-Kleer’s newest franchisee and lives in Stafford with his wife, Elaine, and two children. His territory comprises Stafford and covers the areas including Stoke-on- Trent, Lichfield and Telford

What drew you initially to franchising?

I have worked as a business development manager in the software industry for the past 16 years. I decided that, at the age of 43, it was time to think about a new career that would give me and my family a more rewarding and independent future.

Why did you choose Optic-Kleer in particular? I had registered my details with FranchiseInfo.co.uk, as I had always wanted a franchise since my father got me interested as a teenager. I received one of their e-shots, which contained information about Optic-Kleer. I requested further information and was contacted the very next day by David Overton. We chatted through the opportunity and David confirmed there was an opening in the territory I was looking for. I have driven all over the UK in the past and I was looking for a territory that was on my doorstep.

David emailed me further information and sent through their Franchise Information Memorandum. It was very professionally written, and it not only gave me a lot of information about the company and their franchise opportunity, but also a step-by-step guide to franchising. I thought the brand was very striking and readily recognisable.

When did you finally make the decision to buy a franchise with Optic-Kleer?

After a couple of further phone calls, David invited me to Boston to visit the team at their head office. The meeting in Boston was very relaxed and informative. During the journey home I was very quiet, but my wife kept asking me lots of questions about the opportunity. As I had answered each one positively, it was clear I had made my mind up. I called David the next day and paid my deposit.

How has your induction and training with Optic-Kleer gone so far? It was a busy week. I turned up on Monday morning with my new van. Following a brief overview of the week, David took my van to have it wrapped in the Optic-Kleer livery. We left it there and went to visit the accountant to finalise a few details. I was then ready to start trading. After lunch, and having read through the operations manual, we started the training.

David’s attention to detail is amazing! For years, I had driven an Audi as a company car, so David acquired an Audi windscreen for me to practise on! The training is very hands on, informative and relaxed. Before buying the entire company, David had previously run his own Optic-Kleer franchise so what David doesn’t know about fixing windscreens isn’t worth writing about!

At the end of the first day, we went back to pick up the van – I was speechless. My vehicle had been transformed from a plain van into an awesome Optic-Kleer- branded vehicle-based repair centre. The striking van brand identity was one of the main attractions of this franchise; I am very proud to now drive one of my own.

What equipment did you receive with the franchise? In addition to providing the graphics, David supplies you with everything you need to start trading from day one. This included all the specialist tools, injectors and resins to carry out a windscreen repair, together with a complete package of branded signage, banners, flags, a repair canopy, and, of course, invoice pads, a credit card machine and business cards. The accountants take care of vat registrations. From my research this is one of the most comprehensive start-up packages on the market today, making Optic-Kleer extremely good value for money.
