LEGAL SERVICES NEGOTIATION INFLUENCING REPRESENTATION

MEMBER LEGAL SERVICES TEAM (CONT'D) LEGAL SERVICES

To support that increase we have introduced:

2021 Group Action Claim (GAC) – Following the 2020 pensions claims and the increasing number of large group actions being received, the GAC function was introduced. This gives Branches the ability to manage multiple members claims and their associated documentation under a single umbrella.

2021 Road Traffic Accident (RTA) – in response to changes in the Civil Liabilities act, PFEW introduced the Legal Assistance Service, which is a dedicated website/call centre (https://pflegalassistance.com/ or call 08081965315) for members to submit RTA claims directly. Our lawyers provide advice and assistance for members using the OIC (official injury claim) portal. Claims resulting in damages estimated at more than £5,000 are funded by PFEW.

>£10m Budgeted expenditure (2024)

2023 Funding Process for PIP – PFEW introduced a more streamlined approach to deal with funding requests relating to Post Incident Procedures (PIP). This was done to make the process easier and quicker for officers to access legal advice, at these critical times.

Looking to the future, Personal Injury (PI) 2025. We are introducing a new easier way for members to submit personal injury/clinical negligence claims. Members will soon be able to submit claims directly via a new link accessible via the Branch.

NATIONAL VIEW REGIONAL VIEW

Year-on-year the Member Legal Services department has seen an increase in submissions as can be seen below. It is also important to note that we have seen an increase in the complexity of cases being submitted due to the backdrop of policing having and continuing to change.
