Explanation: Between March 2019 and March 2024, the overall length of service of the federated ranks has been falling, meaning that the percentage of police officers with less than 5 years in service increased from 17.1% in March 2019 to 29.4% in March 2024, a 72% increase. This means that police officers are increasingly located at lower pay points, which receive a lower pay in comparison to other economic sectors. We noticed that pay progression is too slow to keep and attract the best talent. These figures help us to make a case for shortening the pay scale so police officers could reach the top of the scale a lot faster and increase their pay.

Explanation: Federated ranks’ base pay has been falling down significantly across all pay points since September 2010. When using the Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) inflation to estimate real pay, federated ranks’ weighted average (mean) pay has decreased by 18.2% between September 2010 and September 2024. By pay point, the largest real pay reduction has been experienced by Constables, who saw their real pay reduced by 20% between September 2010 and September 2024. These figures clearly show how police pay increases since 2010 have failed to compensate for inflation and help us to support our case for higher pay rises for PFEW members.
