NEGOTIATION LEGAL SERVICES

NEGOTIATION INFLUENCING REPRESENTATION

BUSINESS AREAS

Our Business Areas are led by experts, who address the issues most important to our members, providing critical support to the National Board, promoting excellence in policing, and safeguarding members' interests. While decision-making and policy creation remain the responsibility of the National Board, Business Area Leads work diligently behind the scenes, leveraging their expertise to analyse key issues, build strategic partnerships, and offer informed advice to external bodies. Their efforts include preparing detailed reports and recommendations for the National Board to consider and adopt, ensuring that members' concerns are effectively represented.

Equality

At a local level we ensure that Equality Lead Officers are equipped with the latest guidance, good practice and continuous professional development to support members through instances within equality (e.g. grievance, reasonable adjustments, unlawful discrimination, flexible working).

At a national level we ensure members' voices are heard by various decision-making bodies such as the NPCC or College of Policing on equality within policing.

Examples of on-going work include our continued push for appropriate fitness testing for our members, and a recent Branch training campaign to reflect updated legislation for sexual harassment.

CONTINUED Conduct and Performance

Locally we ensure that when members need our support in relation to Misconduct or Gross Misconduct proceedings, that our representatives are equipped with up-to-date information on regulations.

Nationally in 2024, we have supported the implementation of a National Risk Assessment for forces to use when considering any misconduct or performance process. This promotes good practises and consistency, underpinned by the welfare and wellbeing of the officer.
