We influence, encourage, and assist in development of policy, procedure, and guidance in all things Health & Safety, and Welfare/Wellbeing.

Locally we support H&S Leads in monitoring the adherence of Health & Safety policy in force.

Nationally our achievements include the #AskTwice initiative to support mental health awareness, and the running of webinars to educate members on mental health and suicide ideation, attended by over 400 participants.

Looking to the future, our 2024/5 priorities include fatigue awareness and further influencing national policy on mental health awareness. We will also be hosting a national H&S seminar in December, covering a wide array of topics including gloves, electric vehicles and mental health.

#ASKTWICE Parliamentary

Our group of Board and Council members work closely with political advisors to identify MPs and Lords that have a vested interest in policing, influencing them on what the membership are telling us via Branch Boards.

Achievements include our contribution towards the amendment of the Assault on Emergency workers (offences) Act 2019 in 2022.

On-going works include the ‘DG6 Campaign’ which asks the Government to execute an amendment to the Data Protection Act to mitigate the impact of bureaucratic burden of evidence redaction pre charge to the CPS.

Welsh Affairs

Ensuring that Welsh police officers have a strong voice in both the Senedd and the broader UK government is crucial for addressing the unique challenges and concerns faced by law enforcement in Wales. This advocacy encompasses a wide range of activities, including:

• Cross-Border Collaboration: During the COVID-19 pandemic, Wales enacted 169 laws compared to England's 135, highlighting the necessity for effective cross-border coordination.

• Pension Representation: Active participation in the All Wales Pension Board meetings ensures that the specific needs and interests of Welsh officers are considered in pension-related decisions.

A recent example of this engagement is the meeting between Welsh Police Bravery Award winners and the First Minister on November 27, 2024. This event underscores the commitment to recognising and addressing the unique experiences of Welsh officers.

By maintaining open lines of communication with both the Senedd and UK government, we strive to ensure that Welsh-specific policing concerns are integrated into national policy and legislative reforms.
