Responses to our Uniform Survey
Our area is very broad, supporting members on topics from Custody and Response to Firearms and Deployments. Recent initiatives include the first ever national survey on police uniform in collaboration with the University of Lancaster. This will help us to influence for high standards and fit for purpose uniform going forward and highlights the continued collaboration we have with academic institutions and universities to help effect positive change for our members.
On-going initiatives include working with the PCF (Police Consultative Forum) on an approach to overnight away from home allowance to better support members with deployments.

Professional Development
Dealing with all matters related to the development of police officers; from recruitment standards and entry routes (including transferees), probation, training, and degree apprenticeships through to promotion and leadership standards.
There is a strong link to other Business Areas, such as Conduct & Performance; highlighted by a significant achievement for our Business Area, in the review and identification of significant anomalies in the Reg.13 Framework – resulting in representation at the highest level of the Home Office, as well as several important Judicial Reviews.
On-going work includes engagement on a new PDR process and Sergeant to Inspector Promotion Process – a fairer, more robust system of promotion.
