Hampshire – Miscarriage and Baby Loss Support Introduction
In 2016, an officer and their spouse experienced three miscarriages, inspiring the formation of a Miscarriage and Baby Loss Support Group.
Description
The officer collaborated with the Federation and the National Women’s Group to overhaul HR policies. This included redefining miscarriages as bereavement rather than sickness.
Resolution
The initiative supported 12 forces in implementing similar policies and led to national guidance from the National Police Chiefs' Council.
BACK TO NATIONAL VIEW South Eastern Outcome
The force observes Baby Loss Awareness Week annually, underscoring the lasting impact of this initiative.
Sussex – South East Allowance Influencing
Introduction Since 2021, the Sussex Federation has influenced MPs and the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for an increase in the South East Allowance due to rising living costs.
Description
Regular meetings presented data showing officers struggling financially, with many resorting to payday loans and food banks. The Federation also highlighted the challenges officers faced living in high-cost areas.
Resolution
A detailed report was submitted to the Chief Constable, PCC, and MPs, resulting in regional acknowledgment of the issue.
Outcome
The South East Allowance was increased to its highest level, reflecting the Federation’s persistent efforts to improve officer welfare.
