Part 2: Student reflection
1. Summarise feedback The feedback I received was very helpful as it gave me confidence that what I had done was meeting the requirements of the brief. It also helped me focus on things I was not aware of and could easily have missed.
The most useful feedback included the following:
y Both my teacher and my peers felt that my original solution was slightly lacking in calcium, which as I found out in my research, is so important for adolescents. Therefore I decided to replace the 200 ml glass of milk with a smoothie, made with 200 ml milk and one carton of yoghurt. It would also contain fresh berries, which would provide more vitamins and minerals. This was very useful feedback, as I had overlooked that adolescents need 5 portions of dairy every day.
y My teacher pointed out to me that teenagers’ brains are growing rapidly and they require healthy fats for brain development. Healthy fats also provide energy for active or sporty adolescents. I added aioli to my chosen solution as it is made with olive oil, a good source of healthy fats.
2. Reflect on your work during the design brief process What I did well
I feel that I carried out extensive research into the nutritional needs of teenagers. I used a wide variety of different sources. I was the only student that spoke to a public health nurse and she provided me with detailed and specific information about the growth rate of teenagers and what nutrients they need. This made my project unique.
