Fekkai selects Honeywell Solstice Propellant

Global hair care brand Fekkai is to use Honeywell’s Solstice Propellant technology in three of its latest products, including its Volume Lock Hair Spray, Flexible Hold Hair Spray, and Sheer Dry Shampoo. Fekkai is a brand known for

clean beauty products, and with consumers becoming increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of the products they purchase, it became imperative for the brand to choose the right technology to power its new hair sprays and dry shampoo. Honeywell’s Solstice Propellant

(HFO-1234ze), a hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) solution, helps reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 99% compared with traditional propellants commonly used in cosmetics and upholds performance. Solstice Propellant has an

ultra-low GWP of less than one, is non-ozone depleting, and is

salon-quality performance. “For our new sheer dry shampoo

and hair sprays, we were insistent on finding a spray technology that would support our mission to shatter the myth that clean and reduced-impact hair care does not perform at the highest quality,” said Frédéric Fekkai, chief executive officer and founder of Fekkai. “In fact, I waited for over three

volatile organic compound (VOC)- exempt – meaning it has negligible contribution to ground-level smog formation.

The use of Solstice Propellant in

Fekkai’s newest products supports the hair care brand’s focus on clean and sustainable ingredients to help eliminate the potential harmful effects of beauty products on the environment, while still maintaining

years before developing hair sprays because I could not endorse using anything that would negatively impact the planet,” he added. “One of the guiding principles for

the new and updated Fekkai brand, which is focused on clean, vegan and lower-impact products, is that looking good should not be at the expense of the planet. Honeywell’s Solstice Propellant was the perfect solution to allow us to bring reduced-impact, high-performance hair sprays and a dry shampoo to market.”

capacity in Spain, will be completed by December 2022, and is scheduled to begin production in early 2023.

The enhanced productivity

will cut CO2 emissions by 2,000 tons per year, while also reducing the amount of energy needed for waste water treatment by eliminating all saline waste water,

which currently amounts to around 850 tonnes per year. MDJ provides a refined, fresh,

floral (jasmine) fragrance, and is used in a wide range of consumer products because of its good compatibility with other materials. The market size for MDJ in

2021 was estimated to be 20,000 tonnes.
