Welcome to the March issue of Personal Care Global, which includes a special focus on natural ingredients. In addition to technical
articles on naturals, there is an in-depth look by The Green Chemist
Consultancy’s Barbara Olioso at the various beauty standards like COSMOS, Natrue and the EU Ecolabel, as well as scoring initiatives such as Eco Beauty Score, Green Score and Green Impact Index.
Barbara rightly points out that cosmetic
ingredient suppliers are unwilling to invest in all the systems as providing the required data for different formats adds a layer of cost. To unravel this dilemma, Barbara is running a poll on her LinkedIn page during April to get an idea of which formats are preferred by the industry. Meanwhile, a piece co-authored by Giorgio
Dell’Acqua of the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists explains why chemical composition matters for the quality of natural ingredients used in personal care. As the article states, plant material with the same INCI name can be different in molecular composition based on the plant’s geographical

location and how the plant components are extracted. Analysis of a specific extract and material in particular for its active ingredients, as well as possible toxic contaminants, is essential to guarantee the best efficacy and safety compliance, it adds. Elsewhere, with the spring conference season
in full swing, this issue includes a comprehensive preview of in-cosmetics Global (page 21), which takes place on 28-30 March. The Personal Care Global team will be out
in force in Barcelona to meet as many people as possible over the three days of the show. Business manager Chris Vincent, publisher
Geoff King, publishing director Trevor Moon and myself will be at stand AM72 to discuss future editorial and advertising opportunities in the magazine and online, as well renew old acquaintances. We cannot wait to meet you. While there, there will be an opportunity to
get the latest edition of our wildly popular series of Little Books: Little Book of Natural Ingredients Volume 4. Also to hand will be Little Book of Skin Care Volume 4. It is no exaggeration to say our Little Books fly
off the shelves, so be sure to visit the stand early to ensure you get hold of a copy before they run out.
Enjoy the magazine.
