Barcelona poised to bring formulations to life

Roziana Zulkifli, Event Director - in-cosmetics Global

The international personal care ingredients community will come together in Barcelona, Spain this month when the world’s leading personal ingredients show, in-cosmetics Global, returns to offer unrivalled opportunities for attendees to network, source ingredients and share insights. Taking place at the Fira Barcelona Gran

Via on 28-30 March, more than 850 leading personal care ingredient suppliers are confirmed to showcase over 2,800 ingredients, helping R&D professionals discover the latest, newly launched ingredients for new product development.

Among them, 80% of the top 20 global

cosmetics ingredient suppliers will be in attendance. This includes BASF, Croda, Ashland, Solvay, Clariant, Momentive, Evonik, Lubrizol, Nouryon, Arxada (formerly Lonza Specialty Ingredients), Stepan Europe, Wacker, Shin-Etsu, Roquette, DSM and Symrise. Meanwhile, more than 80 new exhibitors will exhibit for the first time, including Bokilbio, Innovactive Ingredients, Farmforce, Lucideon, Roka Furadada, Sequential Bio and Aromaaz International.

Clean beauty and the growth of biotech Among the categories set to be represented

on the show floor, clean beauty is leading the fore with more than 1,300 ingredients on display that respond to the need for products that are organic, green, cruelty-free or naturals. Biotech ingredients, where plant extracts are manufactured using various techniques such as cold pressing, compression, steam distillation or solvent extraction, are also rising in popularity. Among the exhibitions demonstrating

how biotech ingredients can be used in new formulations, Active Concepts will display its ACB Rice Water SF. Having captured the attention of consumers as the next must-have hair care active, Active Concepts’ hair care treatment is designed to accelerate growth and rejuvenate damaged hair. Fermented water allows vitamins and amino acids to be more bio-available and easily recognised by the strands, making ACB Rice Water SF a superior choice for capitalising on the benefits of rice water in hair care formulations. It is vegan and ISO 16128 certified, proven to increase hair hydration, and offers humidity protection using ayurvedic technology. Fellow exhibitor, Givaudan Active Beauty, will demonstrate the benefits of marine biotechnology with its B-Lightyl universal dark spot eraser, created from Himanthalia elongata, a brown macro-alga naturally sourced in Brittany, France. A natural ingredient

that addresses hyperpigmentation, it reduces the number of visible spots, reactivates the expression of SDF-1, and protects against solar and senile lentigo. The company will also profile its Chronoglow

active ingredient, crafted by green fractionation and empowered by artificial intelligence. Created from Haberlea rhodopensis, also known as ‘the resurrection plant’, Chronoglow is a natural cure for the skin, helping to reverse the effects of ageing and improve its radiance. According to clinical tests, it improves, after two weeks, radiance (+6.1%) and luminosity (+3.8%), and after four weeks, elasticity (+8.9%). Attendees can also discover ingredients

responding to the latest trends from waterless formulations, CBD, microbiome, neurocosmetics and more. Alongside clean beauty, one of the biggest trends to emerge at in-cosmetics Global is a focus on personalisation – which is now a standard that consumers expect from their favourite personal care and cosmetic brands. Consumers are increasingly expecting brands to anticipate what they might want or need next. With more than 500 ingredients on the

show floor making this possible, attendees can join the likes of Roelmi HPC, which will showcase its ÆCTive for microbiota care. The powerful postbiotic has a dermobiotic target that helps to maintain osmotic balance
