Parisian gaming clubs facing six- month closure due to delays Operator News
Parisian gaming clubs, known as cercles de jeux, are facing a six-month closure with the central racing and games service (SCCJ) of the Ministry of the Interior confirming that they would have to cease their activity on the evening of December 31 due to the fall of the French government led by Michel Barnier, and the vote of no confidence which led to the rejection of the 2025 finance law. Te clubs are the unfortunate victims caught in
the legislative crossfire of the political fallout just as they were caught in the onset of the pandemic shortly into their launch. An extension had been promised in Article 28 of the PLFR 2025, created to allow an extension for another year to the Parisian clubs sector due to the interruption of COVID. Te club sector employs around 1,500 employees, along with around 500 indirect jobs. Tey generate

collective GGR of €120m, with more than €40m of tax being collected by the State. A bill was initially in preparation to perpetuate, after seven years of activity, the status of the clubs, in the spring, the administration having issued a favourable opinion, but the dissolution of the National Assembly interrupted everything. Te special law which must be adopted by the Council of Ministers should not allow an article
Vice President of Strategic Communications, Joe Maloney, said: “Today’s hearing notably lacked an industry witness. Tis unfortunate exclusion leaves the committee and the overall proceeding bereft of testimony on how legal gaming protects consumers from the predatory illegal market and its leadership in promoting responsible gaming and safeguarding integrity." In a bizarre twist, the hearing became
focussed on transgender athletes being allowed to take part in NCAA women’s sports.
Legislation Poker pro pleads guilty
Poker pro Cory Zeidman has pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit mail and wire fraud in connection with a years-long scheme to defraud prospective sports bettors in New York and Florida by claiming to have inside information on sporting events. Using fake names and high-pressure sales tactics, Zeidman and his partners falsely led bettors to believe that they had access to non- public information such as player injury information, dirty refs or fixed events.

Brazil accelerates blocking of websites Legislation
Te Secretary of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance (SPA-MF) and the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) have formalised a Technical Cooperation Agreement (ACT) to speed up and optimise the blocking of websites that exploit fixed odds betting illegally. Te main focus of this measure is to create a swift and direct flow of information between the institutions, reducing operational costs and strengthening oversight in the sector. Te Secretary of Prizes and Betting, Regis Dudena,
said: “Anatel has already been a very relevant partner since we intensified our fight against illegality. Now, with the ACT, this relationship will be even more fluid and efficient, which is a gain for the country in the challenge of cleansing the betting sector of opportunistic and ill-intentioned groups.”
repeating that of the PLF to be inserted. Some clubs hope that MPs can propose amendments. But this special law being a first, for the moment no one knows exactly its scope. A bill containing various economic and financial provisions (DDOEF) could perhaps serve as a vehicle. But in any case, this cannot be the case before the end of 2024. Te closure of the clubs, if confirmed, should therefore last, according to the SCCJ, from four to six months.
