Casino floors are moving away from traditional labyrinthine rows of classic live table games, slots and jackpot games, instead placing games in clusters for like-minded enthusiasts to gather around. What has been the sales impact? Are customers installing a greater variety or volume of machines?

David Flinn, SVP Canada, EMEA, and LATAM Gaming Sales, IGT: Te trend toward more game bank and pod configurations really started as a social distancing tactic in 2020, but because players embraced the new gaming floor setups, operators have continued with it. One way this shift has impacted IGT is the elevated value that our customers place on merchandising, particularly in the premium segment. Pod configurations give way to vibrant wedges, toppers and more. Merchandising was an area of focus for IGT at G2E, as this is


an area of our business where we’ve really upped our game to ensure we’re aligned with market opportunities. In terms of game volume, each operator approaches the market differently. Some operators have reduced the number of cabinets on a gaming floor, but more a common approach is a closer look at optimisation, and evaluating which games, configurations and zones of the floor are yielding the highest volume of play.
